BRET FINISHES SECOND TO ZACHARY LEVI… AGAIN (SIGH)

usa-today-bret.jpgThis past weekend, Bret appeared on the cover of the USA Today Weekend edition (along with Chuck’s Zachary Levi and Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace) as one of the “best new stars of the TV season.”

Under the subheading, “Most Likely to Be Breakout Stars,” Bret was voted #2 by an All Star team of entertainment reviewers representing the 5 major U.S. television markets (Los Angeles, Denver, Milwaukee, San Jose and Columbus). Lee Pace was voted #3, but it was Bret arch-nemesis Mr. Zachgrrrrrrrrrrry Levi who took the top spot. (For those of you who don’t know, Bret finished second to Zach for the lead role in Chuck before being offered Reaper.)

But the Levi winning streak ends there.

In the same article, Reaper is the consensus pick as the 2nd best new show of the season, just behind Pushing Daisies but just ahead of Chuck. (Take that, Zach. How’s Bret’s ass look?)

For those of you keeping score, that’s one last place finish for Zach and zero last place finishes for Bret. If you ask us, that makes Bret the real winner. But you don’t have to take our word for it, take math’s.

Whether your preference is mean, median or mode, Bret comes out the winner in every equation. Take a look:

Zach (1,3)
Bret (2,2)

Mean – Otherwise known as the average. Technically this results in a tie at 2, but with no last place finishes you’ve got to give the nod to Bret.

Median – Otherwise known as the middle number in a series of numbers (or in the case of an even set of numbers, the mean of the two middle numbers.) Winner! Bret is the clear, mathematically defined winner at #2.

Mode – Defined as the number that appears most often in a set of numbers. Hmmm, let’s see. Zach has one number 1 and one number 3, but Bret has two number 2’s. We’ll say it again… Winner!

Even the relatively obscure statistical analysis tool “The Box-and-Whiskers Plot” sides with Bret. (Don’t believe us? Track down a first edition Poor Richard’s Almanac, find out what the hell the Box-and-Whiskers Plot is, then draw it yourself and see.)

I think we’ve made our point, Mr. Levi. You may have fooled everyone with your larger network and your higher advertising budget, but you can’t fool math!

I have to admit, I watched Chuck on Monday night and loved it, but I also watched Reaper tonight and loved it too. So I’m up in the air right now as to which show will be my favorite…oh yeah, and I’m also planning on tuning in to Pushing Daisies. Loved Lee Pace in Wonderfalls. It’s going to be a tough one.

Good luck with the show!
